Apple Is Preparing Something BIG!

Apple could be getting ready to enter an entirely new product category, and this time, we might be looking at something that could eventually change how we interact with our smartphones. Forget about the iPhone for a moment, because Apple is reportedly developing its first-ever smart glasses, combining artificial intelligence, cameras, audio, and Siri into a wearable device you could use throughout the day.

And the timing couldn't be more interesting. The AI glasses market is growing rapidly, and Apple might be preparing to take on one of the biggest players in this space. But here's the twist: Apple's first smart glasses might not have a display at all. Instead, the company could be focusing on making AI more accessible without forcing users to look at another screen.

When Will Apple Smart Glasses Launch?

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is targeting a launch in late 2027 for its first smart glasses. The company could potentially unveil the device at WWDC 2027, giving us an early look at how Apple plans to bring artificial intelligence into everyday eyewear.

Unlike the Apple Vision Pro, these glasses are expected to focus on practicality rather than immersive augmented reality. Reports suggest they could feature built-in cameras, speakers, microphones, Siri integration, and a close connection with the iPhone.

Imagine capturing photos, answering calls, listening to music, or interacting with an AI assistant without pulling your phone out of your pocket. That could be the experience Apple wants to deliver.

Privacy could also play a major role in the product's development. Since cameras built into glasses can make people uncomfortable, Apple may need to introduce clear safeguards to help users and the people around them feel more secure.

AI Glasses Are Becoming Extremely Popular

Now, here's where things get really interesting. According to Counterpoint Research, global AI glasses shipments surged by 263% year over year during the first half of 2026.

Even more surprising, display-less models accounted for approximately 96% of all AI glasses shipments during that period.

Shipments of these screen-free glasses increased by 258% compared with the first half of 2025, while also recording 22% growth compared with the preceding six months.

What does this tell us? Consumers may not necessarily want complicated glasses with digital displays floating in front of their eyes. Instead, they seem increasingly interested in products that combine familiar eyewear designs with useful smart features.

And that could be exactly the opportunity Apple is looking for.

Meta Could Make Things Difficult for Apple

However, Apple won't be starting from scratch in this market. Meta has already built a strong position with its Ray-Ban smart glasses, offering photography, music, calls, and AI features in frames that look like regular sunglasses.

Counterpoint Research estimates that Meta controlled approximately 94% of the global AI glasses market during the first half of 2026. Its shipments reportedly increased by 260% year over year.

The company's growth has been supported by a wider selection of frame designs, broader retail availability, and more affordable models.

This is an important advantage because consumers don't necessarily want to wear something that looks like an experimental piece of technology. They want glasses that look good while offering additional functionality.

Apple could adopt a similar formula but rely on its ecosystem to stand out. Seamless iPhone connectivity, Siri integration, and closer interaction with other Apple devices could become major selling points.

Still, Apple's reputation alone won't guarantee success. The company will need to deliver useful features, reliable AI performance, and a price that convinces consumers to give these glasses a chance.

What About Apple's Augmented Reality Glasses?

If you're waiting for Apple to launch glasses that project digital images directly into your field of vision, you might have to wait a little longer.

Display-equipped AI glasses accounted for just 4% of global shipments during the first half of 2026. However, this segment is also growing, with shipments reportedly increasing by 449% year over year.

Apple's more advanced augmented reality glasses are reportedly not expected until 2029 at the earliest.

This suggests Apple could take a step-by-step approach, starting with simpler smart glasses before moving toward more advanced augmented reality technology.

Of course, there are challenges. Increasing semiconductor costs could push prices higher, while privacy concerns surrounding wearable cameras could discourage some potential buyers.

Can Apple Take Over the Smart Glasses Market?

Despite these challenges, the future of smart glasses looks promising. Apple, Meta, Google, and Samsung are all investing in this category, and the next generation of devices could become far more intelligent.

Instead of simply responding to commands, future glasses could understand their surroundings, recognize relevant information, and offer assistance based on the situation.

And if Apple manages to combine that intelligence with its signature design, strong ecosystem, and focus on privacy, its first smart glasses could become a major new product category for the company.

But the big question is whether Apple can challenge Meta, which already has a significant head start.
