The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is reportedly coming next month, and this could be one of Apple’s most interesting smartwatch launches in years. The new-generation Ultra is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Ultra, and several other major products.

While Apple could make changes to the design and overall hardware, some of the most exciting upgrades may be hidden beneath the surface. From a much more capable Siri to major health-sensor improvements and better power efficiency, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could bring meaningful changes to how the watch performs and what it can do.

Here are three rumored upgrades that have me particularly excited.

A Much Faster Chip for AI-Powered Siri

One of the biggest changes coming to Apple’s software this year is the new AI-powered Siri, and watchOS 27 is expected to benefit from it as well.

Siri on the Apple Watch has traditionally been useful for basic commands, but it hasn’t felt like a truly powerful AI assistant. That could change with the Apple Watch Ultra 4.

Rumors suggest Apple is preparing a significantly more powerful chip for its next-generation watches, potentially called the S11. This could be especially important because Apple’s new Siri will likely require considerably more processing power to deliver faster and more intelligent responses.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that Apple Watch performance hasn’t seen a major jump since the S9 chip was introduced in 2023. Although Apple has technically introduced newer chips since then, the actual processing performance has remained relatively similar.

The Ultra 4 could finally change that.

A faster processor combined with Apple’s new AI-powered Siri could make the entire watch feel more responsive. Siri could potentially handle more complex requests, while everyday interactions with watchOS could become noticeably faster and smoother.

Major Health and Sensor Improvements

The second upgrade could be even more significant, especially for people who consider health tracking one of the Apple Watch’s most important features.

According to previous reports from Digitimes, the number of sensor components inside the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could potentially double. We still don’t know exactly what these additional or upgraded sensors will be used for, but this suggests Apple could be preparing a major expansion of the watch’s health-monitoring capabilities.

And one of the most interesting possibilities is improved blood-pressure monitoring.

Apple is reportedly working on a high blood pressure notification feature that has been under FDA review. If this technology makes its way into the Ultra 4, the watch could potentially alert users to signs of hypertension without requiring them to regularly use a traditional blood-pressure cuff.

That could be a major addition to Apple’s health ecosystem.

The Apple Watch already offers features such as heart-rate monitoring, ECG, sleep tracking, temperature sensing, and activity tracking. More advanced sensors could take the Ultra 4 another step toward becoming a comprehensive health-monitoring device.

Better Power Efficiency and Potentially Longer Battery Life

The third upgrade may sound less exciting, but it could have one of the biggest impacts on everyday use: improved battery efficiency.

Digitimes has reported that Apple Watch Ultra 4 will feature significantly improved power efficiency. While that doesn’t necessarily guarantee a much larger battery or dramatically longer battery life, it does give Apple more flexibility.

Apple could use the efficiency improvements to power additional sensors and AI features without significantly increasing battery consumption. At the same time, there is a possibility that some of those efficiency gains could translate into longer battery life.

The Ultra already has a major battery advantage over Apple’s standard Watch models, but there is still room for improvement.

This is particularly important because minimalist fitness trackers such as WHOOP and Fitbit Air focus heavily on long battery life. If Apple can deliver better efficiency while adding more sensors and a faster processor, the Ultra 4 could become even more competitive.

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 Could Be a Big Upgrade

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 doesn’t necessarily need a completely redesigned exterior to be exciting.

A faster chip, smarter AI-powered Siri, major health-sensor upgrades, and improved power efficiency could make this one of the most meaningful Apple Watch upgrades in several years.

And with the Ultra 4 reportedly launching next month alongside Apple’s next-generation iPhones, it could become one of the biggest highlights of Apple’s upcoming product lineup.

If these rumored upgrades actually make it into the final product, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could offer much more than a simple performance refresh. It could be a major step toward making the Apple Watch smarter, more health-focused, and more capable than ever before.
