Apple’s Next Ultra Could Be a Major Upgrade

Apple is getting ready for what could be one of its biggest product launches of the year, and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could be one of the most exciting devices in the lineup. Expected to arrive next month alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, the rumored iPhone Ultra, and several other new products, Apple’s next Ultra could bring some of the most meaningful upgrades we’ve seen in years.

The Ultra lineup has already established itself as Apple’s most powerful smartwatch, but this time, Apple could be taking things even further. From a major performance boost to upgraded health sensors and better battery efficiency, there are three rumored changes that have me particularly excited.

A Much-Needed Performance Boost

Apple is putting a major focus on its new AI-powered Siri experience with watchOS 27, and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 is reportedly expected to feature a more powerful processor designed to handle these new capabilities.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, both the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Apple Watch Series 12 are expected to receive a long-awaited boost in chip performance and speed.

And honestly, this upgrade is overdue.

While Apple has technically introduced newer chips since the S9, the actual processing performance of the Apple Watch hasn’t changed dramatically since 2023. The current generation uses the S10 chip, so the Ultra 4 could potentially move to an S11.

That could make a big difference, especially with Siri.

Apple’s new Siri is expected to become much more capable, allowing users to interact with their devices more naturally and perform more tasks using voice commands. Bringing that experience to the Apple Watch could completely change how we use it.

A faster chip could mean quicker responses, smoother interactions, and a much more responsive Siri experience right from your wrist.

Major Health Tracking Improvements

The second major upgrade could be even more important: health tracking.

Health features have become one of the biggest reasons people buy an Apple Watch, and Apple could be preparing some serious improvements for the Ultra 4.

Digitimes previously reported that the number of sensor components in Apple’s upcoming Watch lineup could double. More recently, the publication has suggested that the Ultra 4 will receive a significant upgrade to its sensing capabilities.

We still don’t know exactly what all these new sensors will do, but one possibility is improved blood-pressure monitoring.

Apple is reportedly working on a feature that could notify users about potential signs of high blood pressure, with the technology undergoing regulatory review. If it makes its way into the Ultra 4, this could become another major health feature for Apple’s smartwatch.

And personally, health improvements are the upgrades I’m most excited about. The Apple Watch has already become an incredibly useful health and fitness device, so seeing Apple push those capabilities further could make the Ultra 4 much more valuable.

Better Power Efficiency Could Mean Longer Battery Life

Then there’s the third upgrade, and it’s probably the one everyone wants: better battery life.

According to Digitimes, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could benefit from a significant improvement in power efficiency.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Apple will install a much larger battery. The company could instead use some of the available space for additional sensors and hardware while keeping battery life similar to the previous generation.

But improved efficiency should still give Apple an opportunity to extend endurance.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 can generally make it through around two days depending on usage, but getting even more battery life would be a huge advantage. It would be especially useful for travel, workouts, hiking, outdoor adventures, and those moments when you simply don’t want to worry about charging your watch.

And if Siri AI becomes something we use more frequently, improved efficiency could become even more important.

A Significant Upgrade Could Be Coming

If these rumors are accurate, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 could be much more than a simple yearly refresh. A faster chip, upgraded health sensing, and improved power efficiency could make this one of the most significant Ultra upgrades yet.

And with Apple expected to unveil it alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and rumoured iPhone Ultra, the Ultra 4 could have a very interesting moment in the spotlight this fall.
